Remakery
ABOUT THE TEAM: Remakery is a non-profit community organization focused on providing workshops and pop-up events to educate the community on reusing, remaking, and repairing post-consumer materials. The team receives donations in the form of art supplies, sewing tools, clothing/material, and certain plastics that are repurposed in the education events.
ABOUT THE PROJECT: Remakery is seeking to pilot a micro-recycling program, collecting #2 and #5 post-consumer plastic, like bottle tops and buckets, to recycle into durable, weather resistant 2x4 beams. The beams and any scrap shredded plastic created in processing would be sold, providing a revenue stream to cover costs of the program and to support Remakery events. During the NextCycle Washington program, Remakery will work to refine a business plan, connect with community partners, and identify funding pathways. This project will help divert hard-to-recycled plastics from landfills – up to 18 pounds of plastic waste for each beam.
