Biomass Controls

ABOUT THE TEAM: Biomass Controls designs and builds biogenic refineries that process waste from living organisms like compostable diapers, animal manure, and green algae using a patented thermochemical treatment process, creating valuable resources like heat and biochar. The heat is used to dry incoming materials and produce electricity, while the biochar can be used to filter air and water and improve soil health. Biomass Controls was founded in 2015 as part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Re-Invented Toilet Challenge, and has since been selected to participate in the Toilet Board Coalition Accelerator (2018) and the Manure Challenge Accelerator (2019).

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Biomass Controls is seeking to locate a facility in Washington state that will processes absorbent hygiene products (AHP), specifically post-consumer sustainable diapers, and is seeking connections to funding and financing, site identification and permitting, and partnerships with agencies that work with families and provide assistance with diapers. This project will help reduce AHP materials going to landfill, reduce methane from untreated organic materials, and prevent carbon from entering the atmosphere.
